This is a very nice Whitney Arms Co. Rolling block carbine, which is essentially a clone of the Remington Rolling block system, with some minor changes. It was made by the well known Whitney Arms Company, based in that time in both New Haven and Whitneyville Connecticut. The latter area, today near Hamden Connecticut, was so named due to it's association with the famous Eli Whitney, the inventor of the Cotton Gin.
